Village of Hope
With so much negative and fearful news directed at us on a daily basis, is it any wonder that people lose optimism and hope. The world is never short of wonder; but it is so very short of wonderment.
We seem to have lost our sense of the miraculous, in favour of the horrific, and very real trajedies of human life. The media is adept at reporting just how bad things are. They are simply not that interested in reporting the good.
Therefore, it is always so uplifting to hear of human survival stories.
The rescue of the 33 miners trapped underground in Chile, is one such story that fascinated me, and a story which has touched many people, around the world, about just how much the human spirit can withstand and survive. The experience and the relief in sharing the rescue of these men,albeit from across the world, was very uplifting. The story received a great deal of attention.
Watching some of the men emerge from their tomb, from darkness to light, reminded me of the stories of ressurection, from death to re-newed life. One man reported, that it was the devil who spoke to him in that place, but his faith in God that kept him alive and encouraged him to survive and remain hopeful.
The sheer relief and the reunions were the best scenes on TV I has seen for such a long time.
They made me think of the lives we live in darkness away from our creator. The realisation we are trapped, and the hope of being saved.
The story will however be manipulted in some way. The attention of this rescue has captured the world, and the dark side of goodness will use it at its will. Numerologists are already focused on the symbolism of the number 33, and attaching a more sinister agenda to the story rather than a natural accidental occurance.
Whatever the deal. I loved the simple facts, that some men fell on their kness and thanked God for their rescue.
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust.
